The Duty Schedule for the New Rotary Year has been published. Many changes were made to the assignments so please take a few minutes to look over the list of assignments. Your name should only appear in one column, except for Program.
Sergeant, Music and Invocation have rotating lists. Oh and Music has switched from Tables to individuals this year.
A copy of the Duty Schedule is found on the Club's webpage and can be downloaded to your computer as necessary. You will find the document, titled "2016-17 Duty Schedule" at the bottom of the right-hand column on the club's Homepage.

Work began on a new building last week at the Balloon parking field.
The two old buildings we have used for the last dozen or so years were moved or destroyed.
Concrete was poured to connect the two concrete slabs the old buildings were sitting on.
Last Saturday, Frank and Terry put up the walls for the new building.
We are currently on hold because County Zoning called to state that they did not have a building permit on file for the new structure.
In addition, it was learned that the building may not meet set-back regulations.
At the time of this newsletter, we are waiting for clarification from the County Engineer to determine whether we meet the regulation or what the exact setback must be, after which we will evaluate our choices and make changes as needed.
“One tree can start a forest, One bird can herald spring, One smile can begin a friendship, One hand can lift a soul, One star can guide a ship at sea, One word can frame the goal, One vote can change a nation, One sunbeam can light a room, One candle can wipe out darkness, One laugh can conquer gloom, One hope can raise our spirits, One touch can show you care, One voice can wake up everybody, One life can make the difference. Be that one.”

On June 20th, the First Day of Summer, United Way conducted its first "Literacy Solstice", with an emphasis on Child Literacy.
3rd - 5th Grade students who are not currently reading at their expected level have been identified and will be provided with a 'Literacy' kit. It is a well established fact that students of this age who are unable to read are more apt to drop out of school and many end up incarcerated.
An adult will guide each student through the book and materials in an effort to enhance the student's reading level and comprehension level.
The Kits included a book, memory cards, instructions, a bookmark and other items .
Four local Rotarians and one Rotarian from East Polk helped others from the Village color, cutout, paste and organize 100 kits.
United Way's goal on June 20th was to create 4,000 kits for use in the DM Metro area. With the help of 1,500 volunteers at 27 locations, a total of 4,400 kits were created. Thanks to United Way's efforts many children will now have an opportunity to improve their reading and comprehension skills.
Starting July 1st, Rotary International will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Rotary Foundation.
To mark this historic year, we have set a goal of $300 million, including contributions to the Annual, Endowment, and PolioPlus funds. By making a special centennial gift beyond what you normally contribute, you are helping to launch our Foundation into its second century of service. And you’re empowering Rotary members to continue fighting disease, reducing poverty, providing clean water, promoting peace, and advancing economic development in communities all over the world.
Celebrate the Foundation’s centennial by making a special contribution to help us reach our goal
Last week, PDG Don Goering stepped in and provided our group with an overview of the Foundation and what it has accomplished over the past 100 years. We thank Don for visiting and sharing.
