District Governor Visited Rotary Club of Indianola

Rotary District 6000's District Governor Chris Knapp visited our club last week.
DG Chris is impressed with our club, our club's community involvement and leadership.

His encouragement came in several methods. To name a few:
  • Stay active in our community.
  • Find ways to keep members coming back.
  • Continue to increase membership by involving each member.
  • Support the Rotary Foundation.
Let's support Laura and work to earn the District Presidential Awards this Rotary Year.

Thought For The Day

“The true promise of a connected society

is people helping one another.

I’m a guy who believes in the triumph of humanity

with a little help from technology.”

Balloon Field Building Complete

Last Saturday Karl, Todd, Ron, Dave and Terry applied the primer coat of paint to the entire building

.
.

Monday evening members helped put the second coat of paint on the building after we finished setting up the balloon field.

After the classic is over, work will continue inside.  Plans are to build a wall to create an "Office" space and install organizers for equipment and signs.

Thank you to everyone who has helped with the project. A special Thanks to RASKO Construction, who used their expertise to build the structure so it would be done in time for this year's Classic.  It was fun a fun project and we now have a building to be proud of.  Terry

Balloon Parking

The 2016 National Balloon Classic is scheduled for Friday July 29th through Saturday August 6th.

There are several changes to Balloon Parking for the 2016 year.
Gates have been installed at the entrances to the parking field and will be closed late each morning.
  • Rotary Members will be scheduled to arrive at 3:45 p.m. each day to open the gates, start selling tickets and directing traffic to the parking area.  This system should make it easier to control parking at the beginning of each afternoon.
  • Gates to the Spectator Field will also open at 4 p.m. each day.
  • Traffic will be allowed to enter the parking area through the South Gate from Highway 92 and through the North Gate for vehicles that arrive on 150th Avenue from the North. 150th Avenue will be closed between our South and North Gates.
  • No Camping on the field at night.  (This is new)
Ticket Prices will be $5.00 per person ages SIX (6) and over.
Each Child 5 years and younger will be issued a Children's ticket for entry onto the balloon spectator field.
There are no car-load prices this year.

Schedule:
NiteGlows:  Sunday / Wednesday / 2nd-Friday
Fireworks:  Both Saturdays

We will need two or three people willing to stay and take tickets until about 9:15 p.m. on these nights.

There are LIVE bands on the stage EVERY night of the classic, making admission very reasonable.

Program Suggestions

Area fuel stations are installing new “blender pumps” which allow drivers to fill their vehicles up with higher ethanol blends like E 15 fuel. Many of these blender pumps are being installed by Kum & Go, but there are other stations in central Iowa offering E15 fuel (the Murphy USA in Indianola).

In light of the new installations and greater availability of E15 fuel, Growth Energy thought it would be prime opportunity to educate community leaders about the new pumps, the fuel options available and the benefits it provides to the environment, economy (especially Iowa’s) and pocket book. Growth Energy is an organization committed to the promise of agriculture and growing America’s economy through cleaner, greener energy.
