Coins For Kids

Our "Coins For Kids" schedule for the current fiscal Rotary Year is as follows:
  • July - Sept. - Hope Foundation
  • Oct. - Dec. - Wee Care
  • Jan. - Jun.  - Dollars For Scholars
The past quarter we raised $535, part of which was matched by Chuck K, and donated the total amount to Wee Care Child Abuse Prevention, which is located at the United Methodist Church.

The next six months donations will help fund 3 "Dollars For Scholars" Scholarships for the Indianola High School class of 2016.  Last year, $58,400 was awarded to 126 members of the Class of 2015.
Typically we have given each student a $500 scholarship for expenses at their first year of college or other school of choice.  So the Challenge is on:  Raising $1,500 from now through the end of June is going to require some thought, hard work and empty pockets.  Are you ready???

New Members

January Board Meeting Minutes
The Board met on January 7th at Crouse Cafe. Below is a summary of the meeting:
1.  Two new members are to be inducted on Jan. 10th - Jeromy Pribil and Karl Wilt.
2.  A discussion about continuing our relationship with the National Balloon Classic ended with the decision to work with NBC in 2016.  It is obvious that additional help is needed to staff each night of the Classic and Laura is working with 4 or 5 other groups, some of which helped out last year, to help out.  Laura, Dave and Terry will develop a plan that will help provide more consistency to the number of members present each night, which will allow for better distribution of volunteer groups willing to help out.
3.  The north "shack" at the Balloon Field is deteriorating to the point of no return.  Plans are to obtain estimates of the cost to replace one or both with a more manageable buidling by the February Board meeting.  If anyone has suggestions they are asked to speak with Terry.
4.  The CFK donations for last quarter totaled $331.52 + Sergeant fines of $223.00 = $554.52 that will be donated from the club to Wee Care. In addition, Chuck K asked the club to match (or double) his $500 annual gift.
5.  Committees are asked to meet this month to finalize 2016 budgets and Presidential Citation goals.
6.  Mike and Emily are working with WCLI to determine if that group wants to help with a RAW Bike ride this spring.  They will then decide on a date to hold the event. Some added discussion included creating a challenge for bikers.
7.  District Conference is March 31-Apr 2nd at the Airport Holiday Inn, Des Moines.  All members are encouraged to attend.  It will never be any closer to Indianola.
8.  If your business is interested in advertising at this year's District Conference there are opportunities on the District's Conference Website.
