Special Multi-Club Rotary Events
with a Focus on Water Quality and Sustainability
Rotary’s Des Moines area multi-club committee is planning an exciting 4-part sequence of events on the topic of water quality and sustainability – one of the main pillars of Rotary International. These activities will begin on October 13, 2016 with a speaker coordinated by the World Food Prize, and will culminate the week of June 9, 2017with several activities including a conversation with a panel of speakers, community service activities, and an international project tie-in.
Clean water is a basic need for human beings. When people, especially children, have access to clean water, they live healthier and more productive lives, and are more likely to be educated. However, at least 3,000 children die each day from diseases caused by unsafe water, which is what motivates our members to build wells, install rainwater harvesting systems, and teach community members how to maintain new infrastructure. Whether internationally, regionally, or locally, water quality and sustainability is an important aspect for all of humanity.

Margaret is a member of the World Food Prize Council of Advisors. She was Chair and is now a Patron of the Global Water Partnership, a working partnership among all those involved in water management formed in 1996 by the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
