Ron noted at the February 24th meeting, that 23 newer members to our club, who were not already PHF sustaining members, were each allocated 100 points from the club. In addition, any member who signs up for Rotary Direct will receive another 100 points from RI. Every member is encouraged to become a sustaining member by contributing $100 Every Year to the Rotary Foundation. A member becomes a Paul Harris Fellow by contributing $1,000 (or points) to the Foundation. A member receives recognition for each additional $1,000 (or points) donated to the foundation after achieving PHF.
Rotary Club of Indianola currently has 28 PHF members.
Rotary is focusing on “Water” this year. Water conservation, soil conservation, etc., and the Des Moines Metro Rotary Clubs are working on several projects related to clean water. More details will be released as they become available, including the Iowa Children’s Water Festival on May 11th, The DSM Metro Water Project on June 1st, individualized projects for clubs and BREW.
Members of our club and EXIT Realty North Star are donating time to Warren County Habitat For Humanity build on 18th place Saturday March 11h. The group plans to paint to the interior of the home.
The Indianola Beautification Blowout will be April 22nd from 10 a.m.- Noon. Ron is coordinating the event this year.
Meals from the Heartland will set up at Simpson College on Thursday March 30th. Volunteers will help package meals in two shifts later in the afternoon. Rotaract of Indianola is coordinating the event.
RYLA applications are now due and our club will sponsor 4 students to the 2017 RYLA event on late July. Cost is $450 for each student.
Interact continues to meet and grow in spirit and membership. The club plans to order Interact T-Shirts for each member soon. A motion by Ron, second by Mckinley approved using the start-up money for the expense. Motion carried.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 6th at Crouse Café.
Indianola's Annual Community Beautification Day is scheduled for 10-Noon, Saturday April 22nd. Rotary, Rotaract and Interact members will join to help keep our community clean. Ron will have a signup sheet in the next week or so.
Illness has created a delay in completing the taping of the drywall at the Habitat For Humanity house at 504 W 18th Place.
Plans have been revised to work on
Saturday March 11th.
Work will start at 9:30 a.m. and should only take two or three hours to complete. Rollers and pans will be available. You are welcome to bring your 'favorite' brush is you wish.

As a member of the Rotary Club Kampala, Uganda for 38 years, Owori says, “Rotary has become a way of life for me – with the intrinsic value and core belief in mutual responsibility and concern for one another as a cornerstone. I feel immense satisfaction knowing that through Rotary, I’ve helped someone live better.”
During his one-year term as Rotary’s 108th president beginning on 1 July 2018, Owori will focus on building membership worldwide and increasing visibility and understanding of Rotary.
Des Moines Metro Opera - representatives would like to visit our club sometime in April.
