Our team spent an hour on the Bike trail and Dayton Park last Saturday picking up trash, sticks and debris.
A point of interest: Bob Guilford indicated that he was part of a crew that created Dayton Park the year he graduated from High School. This was the first time he had visited the park since.
Thanks to all who helped our community "look" better.
Iowa Children's Water festival
The Iowa Association of Water Agencies hosts the Iowa Children’s Water Festival (see www.iowachildrenswaterfestival.org for more details).
Over 2,000 fifth-graders attend this annual event that educates Iowa students about the importance of clean and abundant sources of water in our daily lives. The Festival will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the DMACC campus rain or shine.
There are two service opportunities for metro-area Rotarians to expand youths’ understanding of the water cycle, the importance of water quality to overall health, and supporting helping others access clean water:
Metro-area clubs intend to host a joint table in the Exhibit Hall. Each class will attend the Exhibit Hall at some point of the day. Plans are to have materials describing the Rotary Ames Club’s Tanzania water projects and to briefly describe to attendees how Rotary improves lives. Rotarians will be needed for two-hour shifts at the table throughout the event, so we are seeking interest from 12-15 volunteers to set up the table, work 2-hour shifts, and take down the table.
Sign up to volunteer for the day, as the festival requires the help of about 200 adults from 7:30am-3:30pm. Metro-area water utility staff and Wells Fargo employees fill many needs, but more volunteers are needed. A nice Rotary presence would be 10-20 volunteers. Roles include being a class guide (walking from station to station), presenter assistant, or lunch helper. See http://www.iowachildrenswaterfestival.org/Volunteers.aspxfor more information and to sign up.
