Dollars for Scholars

Rotary Club of Indianola presented 3 scholarships to graduating Seiniors at the 2017 Dollars For Scholarships Award Ceremony on May 27th.

Indianola Dollars For Scholars presented 109 scholarships to graduating Seniors equal to $64,400.  Congratulations to the entire class of 2017.

Present: President Laura D., PE-Dave T., PEN-Ron H., Treasurer-Seth L., Secretary-Arlen S., Board Members, Mckinley S., Tim Mc., Terry P., Member-Steve R.
Old Business
  1. Dave and Ron provided a verbal summary report of the Interact and Rotaract school year.
  • A motion by Mckinley, 2nd by Seth, to send a total of Five interact members to RYLA in July 2017 was approved.
  • Seth and Terry were present to hand out Dollars For Scholars scholarships to three IHS students on May 25th.109 scholarships totaling $64,400 were awarded at the presentation.Receiving scholarships from Rotary Club of Indianola were Julia Comer, Jordan Henry and Caitlen Jones.
  • In addition, Interact Club Member Ally O’Meara was named Student Liaison to the Indianola Dollars For Scholars Board of Directors.
  1. Ron provided a short update for the Foundation.
  2. Ron noted that he is waiting to hear if Parks & Rec will allow us to use their tables at no cost for the Book Sale in September.  If they do, then we will continue to hold the sale at the Public Library.  If anyone has other table options, please contact Ron.
  3. Seth provided a summary report for the current Rotary Year.  By increasing dues $15 per quarter with current membership numbers we will be able to cover all expenses for the upcoming year.  The Board approved the budget, with the increase in dues, for the 2017-2018 Rotary year.
  4. The Board approved by consensus that we will begin providing monthly updates for budget and timely highlight new events from RI and District 6000.  The update will be held to 5-10 minutes on the second Friday of each month beginning July 2017.  Members can refer to the bulletin for the schedule.
  5. Steve R. has volunteered to keep members updated on special events and health issues of our members.  Steve will submit weekly reports to be added to the bulletin.  Contact Steve with any of the following, a member becomes ill, in the hospital, birthdays, graduation of members or their family members, birth of new family members (child or grandchild), other events not mentioned. 
  6. Rotary Club of Norwalk meets at 6:30 a.m. each Tuesday at Echo Valley Golf Course.  The club has 20 members, with a goal of 30 members by the end of the year.
  7. Chris Bertelson, Rotary Club of Winterset, will be our club’s 2017/2018 ADG.
  8. A motion by Terry, 2nd by Mckinley, to designate Seth Lampman and Scott Gray as Co-Treasurers was approved.  Audits will be conducted at least once per year, with a general report to the members upon completion.
