On October 28 and 29, The Rotary Club of Campbell River, British Columbia, organized a fundraising event where members painted pumpkins and then auctioned them. Dubbed “Pumpkins-for-Polio” the 2-day event netted over $8000 and was matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, resulting in a grand total of $16, 500 that will go towards global polio eradication efforts.
On November 4, 2019, three neighboring Georgia Rotary clubs: Rotary Club of Marietta, Rotary Club of Smyrna and the Rotary Club Atlanta Brasil, in partnership with WellStar Health, awarded a $10,000 District Grant through TRF to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, Georgia. This grant is in alignment with our Foundation’s mission to: Improve Health and Promote Education around the world. This 100th Anniversary Literacy Gift will provide literacy packets and a book to parents of every child born at Kennestone Hospital over the next year. In other words, between 5,550 and 6,000 babies will benefit from this gift, which would hopefully bridge the gap between reading to babies in utero and age 4.
The Rotary Evening Club's next scheduled meeting will be Nov. 26th. The location for this meeting has changed to the Groggy Dog at 116 W Ashland, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
