“To dignify the human being in all aspects — respecting his rights, the achievements of his work, of his culture, intelligence, and spiritual values — is a certain path to goodwill and to the desired understanding among men, peoples, and nations: peace.”

— To Dignify the Human Being, THE ROTARIAN, July 1975

Trees For & By Rotarians

You may recall that 2017-18 RI President Ian H.S. Riseley asked that we plant a tree for each Rotarian. It's taken longer than expected but we're ready to fulfill that commitment.

Last Saturday, 5 members of Rotary Club of Indianola fulfilled Past President Riseley's dream to plant trees.  50 trees were planted in about one-hour Saturday.  These trees line the Recreational Trail North of Cumming, providing an eventual living fence between the Trail and the new four-lane road that will be built next to the trail..

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where you develop your skills as a leader while having fun and making connections.

Five applications were received for the District's 2019 RYLA experience in July at Grinnell College.  Four students were chosen to attend.

The students and their parents will be invited to a Rotary meeting in the near future and given a chance to introduce themselves and to learn about their expectations.

Brenda Easter Named Honorary Paul Harris Fellow

Earlier this year, Rotary Club of Indianola's Board of Directors made a decision to elect a member of our community as a Paul Harris Fellow.

A Rotary Member or Member of the Community joins the Paul Harris Fellowship by contributing $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation, which is Rotary's own charitable organization.

Member's contributions to the Foundation each Rotary Year are saved and then used three years later to fund projects around the world. Those Projects include

  • protecting mothers and children
  • fresh water
  • literacy
  • creating a peaceful world
  • treating and prevention of diseases
Brenda Easter, Executive Director of the Indianola Chamber of Commerce, embodies the essence of Rotary by helping our community be a better place to live and work.

Brenda is also the Founder and CEO of CTE Hope.

CTE Hope exists to provide hope and support to individuals and families who have suffered from the ill-effects of multiple concussions and traumatic brain injuries. CTE Hope provides education and awareness, and supports the research, diagnosis, management, and treatment necessary to protect individuals from the long-term effects of head traumas and concussions that can lead to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).

For her contributions to this community and her desire to prevent and find solutions to the effects of CTE, Brenda was recently awarded an Honorary Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary Club of Indianola which has contributed $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation in Brenda's name.
